State agencies discriminate against applicants for jobs

The employment offers at the Job Fair held at Moldexpo are proposed based on discriminatory criteria. Experts of the Human Rights Center carried out unexpected inspections at participants in the fair on February 1. Posing as applicants for jobs, they identified a number of irregularities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Aurelia Grigoriu has told Info-Prim Neo that the laws aimed at reducing employment discrimination are violated by the state agencies that staged the Job Fair. The employment chances of pregnant women or women with small children are minimal. The employers do not want even to take into account the work experience of the applicants. In some of the cases, the pregnant women are asked to resign on the last months of the pregnancy. “The problem of non-observance of the human rights and of employment discrimination is acute. We carried out monitoring activities and determined that almost all the six companies that made offers at the company today discriminate against the applicants by the requirements stipulated in their employment announcements. There is discrimination on grounds of age and sex. This is unacceptable. We will inform the National Employment Agency so that it draws conclusions. This shows that the laws are not respected,” said Aurelia Grigoriu. The most discriminatory employer, according to the members of the Human Rights Center, is the Special Service for Hydrometeorology Intervention. It is looking for an accountant, preferably a woman younger than 45. During the inspections, it was established that an invalid person does not have chances to find a job even if they meet all the conditions imposed by the employer. Article 8, point (1) of the Labor Code says that any direct or indirect discrimination on grounds of sex, age, race, skin color, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, social origin, domicile, disability, infection with HIV/AIDS, trade union membership and other criteria not related to the person’s professional qualities is banned.
