Experts in economy consider the state-owned companies should be privatized, even if they are convinced that the process will be nontransparent. Such statements were made in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Economic analyst Victor Ciobanu said that if the state-run companies are privatized, in four-five years they will contribute to forming the budget. “These companies work at a loss and do not bring money into the state budget. They should be thus denationalized. In time these enterprises become lower in value. Let’s take “Moldtelecom”, which in 1997 was put up for privatization for several hundred million dollars. Now it does not cost so much,” he stated.
Doctor of Economy Sveatoslav Mihalache, though he is for privatizing the state-owned companies, considers that the privatization process will be very nontransparent. “I don’t think the privatization will be transparent with the current political class ruling the country,” he said.
Alexandru Slusari, deputy chairman of the National Employers Confederation, also considers that the current political class will not ensure transparency in the privatization process. “The state is a less efficient manager than the private sector. However, there are state-owned companies in EU states that are managed very efficiency. But the main question is if we still have confidence in this political class. In other countries, the main incomes are collected from internal resources. We have an inefficient system. During the last 25 years, we witnessed a lot of failures,” he stated.
Economic expert Viorel Garbu said he is for privatizing the state-owned companies, but these would not be denationalized in the near future. “I don’t think the foreign investors will come in large numbers to Moldova. Our economy is not attractive. We are also close to the conflict-stricken Ukraine. But the most important fact is that Moldova is a state with problems, which is assisted from outside and which behaves like a teen that cannot come of age. The investors do not come to such countries,” he stated.
