State University of Medicine celebrates 70 years of activity

The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” celebrates 70 years of its foundation. On this occasion, an anniversary program was launched on October 4 with the Spartakiad “Nicolae Testemitanu”. The event involved the teams of eight higher education institutions from the country and abroad, IPN reports.

In the opening of the activities, the University’s pro-rector Emil Ceban welcomed the participants in the Spartakiad, wishing them to become winners in competitions and in life. He welcomed in particular the competitors of the University of Medicine of Chernautsi, Ukraine, wishing them success in building relations of friendship with Moldovan students.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Andrei Spanu said the institution he represents promotes a healthy lifestyle and the event staged by the University “Nicolae Testemitanu” perfectly fits their efforts. The current students and residents of the University are those who help promote a healthy lifestyle the most.

The eight teams competed in futsal, table tennis, chess and draughts, volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, skandenberg and tug of war. After the competitions, there was held a dancing evening entitled “Retrodisco”.

The anniversary program also includes thematic conferences and seminars. On October 7, the University Center for Medical Simulation “Nicolae Testemitanu” University will hold for the first time the university simulation Olympiad SimOlympic, within which teams of four-five students will be trained to act in different simulated critical situations.

The solemn festivity will take place at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” on October 8. On October 9, there will be inaugurated the Alley of Famous Scientists and Doctors. It will include the busts of 34 personalities from Moldovan medicine and pharmaceutics, who contributed to the prosperity of the health system.

The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” was founded based on the Medicine Institute No. 1 of Saint-Petersburg, which was relocated to Kislovodsk during World War II and then was transferred to Chisinau together with the students and teaching staff, under the name of the State Institute of Medicine. The Institute in Chisinau started work on October 20, 1945.
