Statistical data on crime rate show real state of affairs
The three persons who broke in a house in Hansca village of Hancesti district were arrested and are held at the remand center of the Ialoveni police commissariat, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on January 23, Deputy Minister of the Interior Iurie Cheptanaru reminded that on January 12 the three persons entered the house, tied up the husband and wife and maltreated them with the iron. Afterward, they stole goods worth about 3,000 lei and ran away. The police caught them later. One of them was born in 1975. He had served 15 years in jail for murder. Another one was born in 1979. He had been convicted of rape. No data were provided about the third man.
Cheptanaru also spoke about another recent offense, when two persons tried to strangulate the driver of the taxi that was taking them to Chisinau. They took the car and the personal possessions of the driver and abandoned him. The culprits, two residents of Stefan Voda district, were arrested after all the roads going from Ialoveni were blocked. They face 6 to 12 years’ imprisonment.
In this connection, Iurie Cheptanaru stressed that the recent rise in the number of crimes is due to the fact that the police now examine and record all the violations of the legislation. “It is not a rise in the crime rate. The statistical data now show the real state of affairs, not as earlier,” the deputy minister said.
Eight murders have been committed in Moldova since the start of this year. Seven cases of these have been solved. Only the murder of businessman Igor Basarab remains unsolved. The 15 robberies committed in the period were discovered.
