Stephen the Great commemorated on July 2

On Friday, July 2, the Moldovan Government will hold commemorative events to honor medieval ruler Stephen the Great and Saint, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the program of events, at 9:00am the leadership of the country will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Stephen the Great's monument in Chisinau. After this ceremony, the Ministry of Culture and the Moldovan Writers Union will present in the monument's square a performance of poetry and music dedicated to the prince, featuring famed authors, singers, theater artists and musical groups. The events will mark the 506th death anniversary of Ştefan the Third of Moldavia, also known as Stephen the Great (c. 1432 – July 2, 1504). The most revered ruler in Moldova, but also designated as the Greatest Romanian of all times by a TV show on Romania's public television, Stephen the Great ruled medieval Moldavia from 1457 until his death. Stephen the Great was sainted in 1992 by the Romanian Orthodox Church. His feast day is July 2, the day of his death.
