Straseni police officer put on probation for using torture
The head of the Straseni Traffic Police Division was given three years’ probation and was banned from working in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a five-year period. The prosecutors demand holding the lieutenant colonel accountable on another count as well, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the police officer aged 41 beat a person suspected of committing an offense, hitting him in the head. It happened at the police station of Straseni town last July. According to the medical examination report, the victim suffered a concussion and other injuries.
The court acquitted the policeman on the second count – interference in investigation and in doing justice. The prosecutors intend to appeal this decision to a higher court.
