The local authorities of Chisinau aim to reorganize street trading in inner city. Under the trade strategy that is to be implemented in Chisinau, only the Central Market will remain in the center of the capital, which will be only an agrifood one. The other markets and street trading activities will be relocated, IPN reports.
In the July 13 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the Central Market will be intended only for traders in fruit, vegetables, milk products and meat, as earlier. The other markets, of clothes and other industrial goods, including the stalls and kiosks, will be moved to other places.
“It will be a painful and difficult reform, but it must be implemented because street trading must be reorganized. The Trade Division was entrusted with the task of working out a calendar plan. We will start with informing the economic entities” stated the mayor.
He noted that the reform will last for several years. The local authorities will no longer extend the authorizations for the markets located near the Central Market, when these expire. If the authorizations expire in 2019 – 2020, the contracts will be renegotiated. The economic entities that will be covered by the reorganization plan will have to move to district markets.
The local authorities will request the Government and Parliament to amend the legislation so that they are offered instruments for punishing street trading with fines, confiscation of good and removal of kiosks.
