Students will be encouraged to participate in decision-making in universities

The heads of student senates from the country and the National Center for Transparency and Human Rights (CNTDO) launched on Monday, November 5, the program “You govern the university”, meant to involve students in the decision-making processes within the administration bodies of higher education institutions, Info-Prim Neo reports. Project coordinator Nicolae Luchian says that the project’s target group are students from the 1st to the 3rd year of study, who will be active and willing to apply their experience after the finalization of the project. Students will learn how to defend their rights and how to involve in decision-making processes in their universities. The group involved in the project will have 40 representatives of student organizations and 20 from other spheres. The goals are to raise the level of knowledge about advocacy among students, which should help them participate actively in the governance of universities. Natalia Covrig, the project’s communication coordinator, said that the chosen students will attend a 4-module training program on topics like public policies, good governance and civic participation. There will also be public debates to help to improve the quality of higher education in Moldova. This is a one year project and is implemented with the support of a company from Budapest, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and student syndicates in Moldova.
