Substandard meat removed from Balti market

A total 72 kilograms of substandard meat and meat products were discovered by Food Safety inspectors on sale at an unauthorized open-air market near Balti’s North Bus Station.

The National Food Safety Agency said in a press release the inspectors revealed that the vendors were selling the pork meat and subproducts in violation of sanitary rules, in inadequate temperature and storing conditions. The vendors also were unable to present origin and quality certificates for the merchandise, which was incorrectly and incompletely labelled, too.

The meat was seized and taken to a waste disposal facility in Balti. The individuals involved in the illicit vending activity were fined.
