Sunday's rainstorm destroyed crops on 820 hectares
Crops on at least 820 hectares were ruined by the heavy rain and hail that battered parts of Moldova on Sunday, June 20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Liliana Puscasu, spokesperson for the Service of Civil Protection and Emergencies, said 90 hectares of corn fields were ruined in Covurlui village, Leova district. In Slobozia-Cremene village from the same district the storm devastated 60 hectares of orchards, 250 hectares of sown fields, 110 hectares of corn fields, and 80 hectares of sunflower fields.
In Domulgeni village, Floresti, hail destroyed 34 hectares of orchards, 70 hectares of sown fields, 50 hectares of sunflower, and 20 hectares of wheat. In Sturzeni village, Riscani, hail destroyed 30 hectares of orchards, and 25 hectares of vegetables.
The affected areas are not protected by the Service for active response to weather conditions.
