Surgical masks ensure minimum protection against pandemic flu
The panic over the pandemic A (H1N1) flu leaves the drugstores in Moldova without surgical masks. Many of the drugstores used the stocks up, but the Ministry of Health promises that the supplies of masks and flu medications will be refilled during a week.
Many residents of Chisinau started to wear masks in public places and on the street. But the masks are not very efficient in such cases as the A (H1N1) virus. A person with mask is out of danger when they are at a distance of a meter and a half from the infected person. But if the distance is smaller, the virus can pass on, doctors warn.
At the same time, the incorrect use and removal of the protection masks can expose the persons using them to additional dangers. Before taking the mask off, the hands must be washed thoroughly. The mask must be folded up and thrown into a garbage bin.
