Suruceni authorities annul decision concerning location of future water treatment station

The local council of Suruceni village of Ialoveni district annulled its decision regarding the place where a water treatment station is to be erected following pressure exerted by villagers and the broad media coverage of the event, the initiative group that insisted on the annulment of the decision says in a communiqué, quoted by IPN.

‘This is a small, but important victory of the initiative group and the people supporting us. However, the big struggle for changing the location is yet to take place and this struggle is unequal,” said the initiative group member Inga Fordea.

None of the members of the initiative group were invited officially to the council’s meeting. Only one of the members, Lidia Renita, was allowed to attend it. “I wasn’t allowed to talk. The mayor and members of the council permanently interrupted me rudely. A representative of the supplier of water treatment equipment was present at the meeting, but left no information about the producing company, at least its telephone or address,” said Lidia Renita.

There was also presented no information about the station’s capacity, the sewerage project that costs 25 million lei, the population’s contribution and the future sewerage and water charge, even if the people required it.

Despite the fact that the decision was annulled, the local council will continue to collect signatures in favor of building the station in the projected place.

The local authorities’ decision to build a water treatment station dissatisfied the villagers. They formed an initiative group that last week submitted a resolution to the local authorities, demanding annulling the decision, or they will go to court.
