Suspended head of Metrology and Standardization Institute pickets CCCEC

Igor Caldare, who was suspended from the post of head of the National Metrology and Standardization Institute, on July 2 picketed the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC), protesting against the delay in examining the case opened against him. Igor Caldare is accused of misuse of power and illegal awarding of prizes to the value of about 70,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The case against me was fabricated by order,” Igor Caldare said, demanding that it be sent to court as soon as possible. An anticorruption officer informed him that the investigation goes on. Spokeswoman for the CCCEC Angela Starinski said two cases were actually started against Igor Caldare, but were later merged into one. They were remitted to court five months ago, but were sent back to the Center for reexamination. Igor Caldarea said he will prove his innocence in court and voiced hope the hearings will be public. In a news conference earlier, Igor Caldare said the accusations against him were made after he announced his decision to reveal fraudulent schemes involving persons from the National Metrology and Standardization Institute and other state institutions.
