Swine fever reported at two farms in northern Moldova

The National Center for Veterinary Diagnosis confirmed the presence of African swine fever in two farms in the north of the country, one in the village of Gârbova, Ocnița, and the other in the village of Vărăncău, Soroca district. As a result, the movement of pigs from non-professional farms to slaughterhouses and animal fairs on the territory of the country was restricted, as was the placing on the market of products and by-products from these farms, IPN reports.

The National Food Safety Agency asks pig owners to urgently inform veterinarians or the local public authorities in case of illness and death of animals or detection of wild boar carcasses. Likewise, pig owners are requested not to use freshly harvested cereals, culinary waste to feed the animals and to strictly comply with the minimum biosecurity requirements.

The people who inform about the detection of wild boar carcasses can ask for rewards in the amount of €50 for each animal.

Swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but it spreads quickly and is fatal to animals.
