A campaign of solidarity with the need to prevent suicide entitled “Take a break for life” will be launched on World Suicide Prevention Day that is celebrated on September 10. The Green Line for Suicide Prevention created 15 cards with encouragement messages that will be published on the website pentruviata.md from where all those who support the cause could take these and distribute them in the social media in solidarity, with hashtag #pauza pentru viață. Also on September 10, a thematic event will be held in the central park of Chisinau, between 11am and 7pm, IPN reports.
“The campaign was inspired by sad suicide stories, resounding stories that showed that the persons who thought about suicide veiledly sought help through social networking sites. But we ignored this need for assistance without realizing it was a cry of those persons,” Liuba Ceban, the founder of the Green Line for Suicide Prevention, stated in a news conference. She noted there are signs that the persons who experience crises show in the social media, such as replacement of the profile photo with a very unclear image, change of name with a title like “I want to disappear” and description of the state with gloomy words.
Liuba Ceban said an increasing number of persons realize that it is important to prevent a tragedy rather than to take a position when this sad thing happens.
Singer Stela Boțan said she also experienced post-suicide moments after a known person committed suicide. “When you know a person with suicidal tendencies, you should not only pretend to be understanding this, but should also take a break and suffer the pain of this person so as to be able to help him. Love is a solution, while fear is a catalyst. It is crucial to show empathy for these persons,” she stated.
According to the data presented at the conference, a person or two persons die daily after committing suicide, while another 20 attempt to kill themselves. Since 2012, the Green Line 060806623 has emotionally supported over 3,000 persons who experienced crisis situations, both adolescents and grownups.
