The head of the Antifraud Division of the State Main Tax Inspectorate will stand trial for acts of corruption. The same criminal case involves the chairman of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Agrifood Products “MoldRosProdExpo” as a defendant, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the defendants were arrested at the start of February, being caught with US$135,000 and 100,000 lei on them. The money was extorted from economic entities for particular tax concessions.

The Tax Inspectorate employee is under house arrest and was charged with passive corruption and traffic of influence. His accomplice is under arrest, being accused on the same counts. The third accomplice in this case ran away when he was placed under house arrest.

Prosecutors established that the defendants used luxury cars Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover Discovery in committing the offenses. They will demand confiscation the vehicles for the state’s benefit.
