Telenesti judge arrested for passive corruption

Officers of the National Anticorruption Center arrested a judge from Telenesti on suspicion that he asked for US$200 from a person for closing a criminal case started against him, IPN has learned from the Center.

The judge was caught red-handed. The money was found in the Civil Procedure Code book that was on his table.

The judge faces 7 to 15 years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 lei. He will also be deprived of the right to hold certain posts or perform certain activities for a period of 3 to 5 years.

The judge was put under arrest for 72 hours.

Six criminal cases over acts of corruption have been started against judges so far this year.
