Temperature in almost all Chisinau apartments lower than 18 degrees Celsius

In nine out of ten apartment buildings in Chisinau that are heated in a centralized way the temperature is lower than 18 degrees Celsius, i.e. under the limit of the sanitary norms, Petru Gontea, the head of the General Housing-Communal Division, said at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall. Last week, the municipal authorities announced that the temperature in 30% of the apartment blocks in Chisinau is lower than required. Petru Gontea has told Info-Prim Neo that after the gas supply to Moldova is resumed, about 24 hours will be needed to connect all the pipelines in Chisinau to the heating system and 48 hours to resume the hot water supply. According to deputy mayor Vladimir Cotet, the situation at thermoelectric plants has improved a little, the outgoing temperature rising by 2-3 degrees. At the same time, the pressure in the main gas pipeline has decreased because the thermoelectric plant CET 2 was reconnected to gas, the deputy mayor said. Cotet also said that the CETs have crude oil stocks for 7-8 days more, according to the information provided by the Government. Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his indignation at the fact that the central authorities do not correctly inform the population about the supplies of crude oil and natural gas. “During three consecutive days they said that we have gas for another 24 hours and it wasn’t clear how long these 24 hours lasted. Are these 7-8 days those announced at the start of the gas crisis? It is 15 days since then. The population must be correctly informed so that they could get ready,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. According to the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the temperature in education institutions is the same as in apartment blocks. The bedrooms in kindergartens are heated by electric stoves and the temperature is 20-22 degrees. Yet, the temperature in some of the nursery schools that are further from the gas main is only 13-14 degrees. The Health Division head Mihai Moldovanu said that the temperature in the municipal medical institutions varies between 17 and 22 degrees. Gas supplies to Moldova were cut off on January 6 following a dispute between Ukraine and Russia. The Moldovan consumers are supplied with gas from the reserves of the Ukrainian state. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is expected to fly to Moscow to sign a deal on gas prices, ending the 19-day dispute. According to Tymoshenko, all the routes for gas transit and gas supplies to Europe will be restored immediately after all the documents on the transit and purchase of gas are signed.
