Temporary placement center provides services to migrants

The Civil Society created a temporary placement center for foreigners. The project is implemented by the International Organization for Migration and the Institute for Penal Reform with financial support from the European Commission and the Government of Italy, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the Institute for Penal Reform says that the center accommodates illegal migrants while steps are being taken to repatriate them. The migrants are placed in the center for a period of up to six months. They benefit from free medical, psychosocial and legal assistance. The migrants can also receive free legal advice through the hotline (0 22) 92-51-71. The assistance is provided by an independent jurist of the Institute. “Analyzing the calls made during the first three months of the center’s activity, we ascertained that the major problem faced by the beneficiaries is the lack of documents needed to stay legally in our country,” said the hotline consultant Alexandru Cebanas. The center was set up under the EU-funded project “Technical cooperation and capacity building of Ukrainian and Moldovan governments for implementation of readmission agreements with the European Union” (GUMIRA).
