Ten ambulances for emergency medical service

The emergency medical service of Moldova received 10 ambulances to the value of €60,000 from the Government of Slovakia. Seven of these will be transmitted to the Aviasan service, IPN reports.

The Ambassador of Slovakia in Chisinau Robert Kirnag said this is the second donation of ambulances. Last year the Chisinau Emergency Medicine Center received two ambulances. “I’m very glad that we met here in a year to handover a much larger batch than the previous one. I transmit with pleasure this present on the part of Slovakia. I hope these ambulances will save a lot of lives on Moldova’s territory. One more project, to provide two more ambulances, is being implemented. One ambulance will be given to the Dermatology Hospital for transporting patients who couldn’t have been carried, while the other one is intended for sick persons from the penitentiary system,” stated the diplomat.

Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said too many people die in Moldova at the pre-hospital stage because the ambulances are not always equipped according to the international standards. “The provision of the emergency medicine service with ambulances is a priority. We already started to take the measures needed to access European funds so as to renew the garage of this service. Ten ambulances represent a lot, but they are not enough for the whole country,” stated the minister.

Emergency Medicine Center director Mihai Ciocanu assured that the ambulances will be used in the best way possible. “Most of these ambulances will be transmitted to the Aviasan service because they have facilities for safely transporting patients in a serious state,” he stated.

The Center’s vice director Andrei Uncuta said the donated ambulances have a minimum of equipment like a functional bed and medical defibrillator. They are to compile a list with the equipment needed for outfitting the ambulances. “The vehicles do not have special ventilators for maintaining the vital functions and do not have all the necessary oxygenation equipment and other elements needed for transporting patients in a very serious state.  The vehicles will be equipped depending on the type of transportation and the specialists who will work on them,” he explained.

The ten ambulances were bought from the Slovak emergency service.
