Tents with hot drinks to be installed in several districts

Warmed-up tents serving hot drinks will be set up on Tuesday in a number of districts in response to cold weather, as decided today by an emergencies committee presided over by acting Premier Iurie Leanca, the Government said in a press release.

By afternoon, 16 villages in six districts suffered total or partial power outages due to heavy snowfall, and driving conditions were particularly difficult in the south of the country. The worst affected was the district of Cahul, where snow reached 70 centimeters.

500 workers and 268 units of machinery were involved today in snow-clearing efforts, with roads treated with roughly 3,000 tonnes of sand and other materials to prevent skidding.

Iurie Leanca highlighted the importance of a well-coordinated effort between rescuers, police and doctors. “Complex interventions that require the involvement of a number of services concomitantly will thus proceed more promptly and more effectively”, he said.
