Text of CC decision on official language will be made public in 15 days

The explanation of the Constitutional Court (CC) concerning the interpretation of Article 13 of the Constitution, which refers to the official language, will be published in the Official Gazette in 10-15 days as the decision must be translated into Russian too, the Court’s president Alexandru Tanase said over the phone during the program “In Depth” on Pro TV channel, IPN reports.

Alexandru Tanase stated that in its decision, the CC used not an own approach, but the same interpretation method as that used by all the Constitutional Courts of the world. Especially, the Court centered on the French and German models. “We explained how a certain norm from the Constitution should be understood,” he said.

He added that the Declaration of Independence always formed part and will form part of the constitutional block as it lays down the constitutional principles and values from which derogation is not possible, including the name of the state and the language, the flag, the alphabet, etc.

On December 5, the Constitutional Court decided that the text of the Declaration of Independence prevails over the text of the Constitution, which provides that the official language is Moldovan, based on the Latin script.
