The government has approved the legislative initiative of a group of MPs which envisages a 40% increase in the amount of social benefits for people with severe, accentuated and medium disabilities who do not meet the conditions necessary for obtaining the right to retirement. After the increase, the benefits will constitute 80% of the quantum of the minimal disability pension, IPN reports.

The same draft law provides for a 30% rise of allowances for the elderly - up to 50% of the quantum of the minimum old age pension established on yearly basis by the Government. 

According to the estimates, the approval of the amendments implies additional annual financial expenses of 79 million lei for 2020.
