The Prut water hits villages in Ungheni
The Prut water swallowed hundreds of hectares of farmland, orchards and pastures in Ungheni district. Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that eight families in Macaresti village of the same district took their property to the relatives, but remained at home.
After the protection barrages in Nemteni and Cotul Morii villages of Hancesti district burst yesterday evening, dozens of families in the risk areas were evacuated. This morning, the mayor's office of Nemteni announced the water entered at least 170 houses. Many of the houses can cave in at any moment. The Commission for Emergencies works on the scene.
Over 600 hectares of farmland and 13 wells were flooded in Zagarancea, Sculeni, Blindesti, Costuleni, Gherman, Valea Mare, and Petresti villages. A number of houses in Barboeni village, Nisporeni, also run the risk of being flooded.
The flood barriers are now being strengthened in Costuleni, Ungheni, Barboeni, Nisporeni, Slobozia-Mare, Cahul and other villages. Employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, National Army soldiers, border guards, the local public administration and villagers are engaged in the works.
This morning, the Prut water level in Ungheni rose by 13 centimeters, while in Hancesti – by 9-14 centimeters. The level of water of the accumulation lake Costesti-Stanca is 95.94 meters. The flow capacity is 800 cubic meters per second.
