Those who plan to participate in the National Cleanup Day on May 12 can register on a virtual map of the social movement “Come on, Moldova!”. They can also mark the problematic areas and can find out which groups of volunteers they may join, Info-Prim Neo reports. Project coordinator Daniela Cibotari told a news conference that the May 12 event necessitates intense preparation and effort. In order to facilitate the organization of the campaign, “Come on, Moldova!”, together with a company, worked out an instrument for registering volunteers. It is a virtual map where everyone who wants to become involved in the cleanup campaign can anytime register. If a person wants to become regional coordinator, he/she must find their settlement on the map and mark the area that is to be cleaned. The place and hour where the volunteers will meet and where they will receive sacks and gloves can also be indicated on the map. The place from where the garbage will be collected should be also indicated so that the authorities send units of transport. According to the organizers, the map represents an advantage for those who want to clean the place by themselves as they can choose from among the areas marked on the map, which are closer to them. The project now includes 40 regional coordinators. 50,000 sacks were prepared for the May 12 cleanup. The organizers urge everyone to become involved so as to make their settlements cleaner. “We also invite the government officials to be near us on this important day and give us an example,” said Daniela Cibotari. The social movement “Come on, Moldova!” organized cleanup campaigns in the municipality of Chisinau and at the Orheiul Vechi reserve at the end of March. The total budget of the project is US$36,000. The event is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and UNDP.
