Three employees of the customs post “Giurgiulesti 1” are accused of collusion in cigarette smuggling. The customs officers attracted attention during the investigation of an attempt to illegally bring over 400,000 cigarettes with excise duties of Ukraine into Moldova. Two citizens of Moldova, who worked as drivers at a Romanian transport company, were also arrested in this case, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Customs Service says the three customs officers were suspended from posts for the period of the investigation.
In connection with this case, the Customs Service reiterates the call to the citizens to inform the customs authority about eventual illegal schemes or abuses involving customs employees. The institution guarantees anonymity for informers.
