In October the Republic of Moldova will host for the first time a large-scale low-kick competition, as announced by the president of the National Muay-Thai & Kickboxing Federation, Vitalie Cebanu, at a news conference on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The competition will take place at the Tiraspol-based Sports Arena and will bring together over 30 fighters from 10 countries. During the tournament, according to Cebanu, there will be held fights counting for the ISKA ranking, while the world champion in the 73kg weight class – Moldovan Oleg Hohlov – will hold a demonstration match against a fighter from Denmark or the UK.
Asked by Info-Prim Neo about the reasons for choosing Tiraspol and not Chisinau as the location for the tournament, Cebanu said the Transnistrian authorities have been more generous and offered better conditions for fighters to prepare before the matches.
Anatolii Gudima, Moldova's national kickboxing team coordinator, added: “this sport is gaining popularity in Tiraspol and, despite political barriers, the sport will unite us into one big family”.
