Tourist numbers declining


In the first six months of the year, lodging establishments were visited by some 41,300 tourists. Just over 46% are non-resident tourists. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists staying is decreasing.

Compared to the first half of last year, the number of tourists accommodated in lodging establishments decreased overall by 73.6%. Summer camps saw the biggest decline – 99.7%), followed by leisure structures – 81.1%, hotels and motels – 72.3%, accommodation facilities – 59.6%, tourist and agrotourism pensions – 53.0%, and guest houses – 42.7%.

Of the non-resident tourists accommodated in lodging establishments, most are from Romania – 30.4% . They are followed by tourists from Ukraine – 15.4%, Russia – 9.6%, Italy - 5%, etc.

In the first half of this year, 186,500 overnight stays were registered. This is by more than 70% lower than in the same period last year.

The average length of a stay in January-June 2020 was 5.5 days (7.3 days for resident tourists and 3.4 days for non-resident tourists).
