Trade union heads seek resignation of Trade Union Confederation president

Several trade union heads demand that the president of the National Confederation of Trade Unions Leonid Manea resign as he takes actions that are to the detriment of the trade union movement. Dumitru Ivanov, the leader of the education trade unions, has told Info-Prim Neo that five heads of the largest trade unions on Monday morning told Leonid Manea to resign because he does not act in trade unions' interests “The relations inside the Confederation of Trade Unions are unhealthy. Sooner or later, the competent bodies will investigate how Cosmos Hotel, the children's sanatorium in the Ukrainian town of Sergheevka and other property was sold,” said Dumitru Ivanov. Persons who participated in the meeting said that Manea asked not be be discharged by the Confederation's Committee or to be allowed to work at Moldsindbalneotur Company. On the same day, Manea filed an application, asking for legal leave, with subsequent resignation. Meanwhile, he went on sick leave. The decision on Manea's resignation will be taken at a meeting of the Confederation's Committee that will be attended by the heads of the 30 trade unions forming part of the National Confederation of Trade Unions. The meeting was arranged for October 1.
