Transport minister regrets some media outlets’ attitude towards him

Minister of Transport Anatol Salaru expressed his regret at the fact that a number of media nongovernmental organizations condemned the involvement by him of the news portal Unimedia and the newspaper Timpul in a trial, by a statement made public on May 23, Info-Prim Neo reports. “In reality, the lawsuit was filed against IM Moldavian Airlines SA, which formulated denigrating statements that cause damage to the minister of transport. Therefore, Minister Anatol Salaru asked the court to oblige the two media outlets to deny the serious and unfounded accusations that they spread without collecting enough evidence, if he wins the case,” says a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Transport. The minister said the denigrating materials published by Unimedia and Timpul form part of a press campaign orchestrated by Moldavian Airlines, which is aimed against a central authority. In such a situation, both of the media outlets are victims of misinformation and the only thing for which they can be reproached is the lack of professionalism in using the information. On May 23, a number of media NGOs, including the Independent Journalism Center, the Association of Independent Press and the Electronic Press Association, condemned Anatol Salaru’s actions, saying they are unacceptable in a democratic society.
