A travel agency based in Chisinau is suspected of swindling more than 40 clients out of over 2 billion lei starting with 2019. Representatives of the firm promised vacations in exotic tourist destinations to clients and collected sums of 50,000 to 70,000 lei from them, but didn’t honor their contractual obligations on different pretexts. This way the tourists didn’t reach the destination, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.
As a result of searches carried out at the agency’s head office, at the homes and in cars of employees, there were found and seized accounting documents, electronic storage devices, drafts, computing devices and other types of evidence.
Two managers of the firm were later arrested. They were questioned and the prosecutor in charge of the case is to ask for remand detention for them.
