Employees of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company demand that the company’s director Gheorghe Morgoci named by the mayor general be dismissed and replaced with Vasile Rudyi, who a year ago won the contest for this post announced by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). Otherwise, they threaten to organize a general strike and paralyze the public transport in two days at the most, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We do not seek bread, but ask the local authorities to restore order at the company,” trolleybus driver Anatolie Tofan said at Tuesday’s meeting of the CMC.
“After Gheorghe Morgoci was appointed as director, the salaries of the drivers were decreased from 5,000 to 3,000 lei, while of the conductors – from 3,700 to 1,500 lei. The vehicles are in a disastrous condition, while the money made by the company is stolen.”
“The heavy rain and floods in Chisinau have never caused so much damage to the Electric Transport Company as during the last year. TV sets, parabolic antennas and many other things that have nothing to do with the daily activity of the company have been classed as damage. A sum of 2 million lei was allocated for repairing the trolleybuses, but no result is seen as the repair is cosmetic,” said another employee, Constantin Marca.
AMN municipal councilor Oleg Cernei said that these protests have been initiated by certain persons and parties. “If the protesters were concerned about the financial situation of the company, they would not promote the interests of certain persons, but would ask for financing from the budget and continue work.” The councilor told the employees they should hold a meeting with councilors at the company to discuss the mentioned problems.
The acting mayor general Nistor Grozavu also said that the protesters are encouraged by certain political parties and that the Chisinau City Hall fulfilled all its financial obligations towards this company.
“The Trolleybus Company is the only municipal enterprise that received all the money planned for it in the budget. The rest of the municipal companies got by 20% less money, depending on the collections into the budget. The company is in a difficult situation owing to the world economic crisis. It cannot receive more money than planned, no matter who the director is,” Grozavu said.
The acting mayor warned the employees that if they paralyze the public transport, they will be held accountable. “The Trolleybus Company provides public services and can hold strikes only in accordance with the law.”
Gheorghe Morgoci was named director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company by order of the mayor general Dorin Chirtoaca. Afterward, the Chisinau Municipal Council announced a contest for this post and Dorin Chirtoaca appealed the Council’s decision to court. The case is being examined. On July 8, the Supreme Court of Justice accepted the mayor’s application, asking that the case be reexamined at the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
