TV Moldova International will continue to air after January 18

TV Moldova International will continue to broadcast after January 18. The announcement comes amid uncertainty following the controversial information spread on January 15 by Teleradio-Moldova Company, Info-Prim Neo reports. The news program “Mesager” aired starting at 21.00 on January 15 informed that TV Moldova International will be not broadcast anymore. Several hours earlier, the Supervisory Board of Teleradio-Moldova struck the issue of the channel's broadcasting off the agenda at the request of the acting director of the Public Television Channel Moldova 1 Adela Raileanu. She said the problem was solved and the broadcasting will be resumed on January 18. Adela Raileanu said the renewal of the contract with the broadcasting operator was delayed because they asked that the broadcasting power be increased. Otherwise, the contract would have been extended automatically. “The tender contest and other procedures lasted longer than planned,” Adela Raileanu said. The contract with the broadcasting operator was singed on December 19, 2006 for a three year period . Adela Raileanu said they agreed to extend the broadcasting until January 14 as they hoped the contract will be signed by then. The director of the TV Moldova International Department Ludmila Barba said though the budget was small, the employees of the channel managed to implement a number of TV projects intended for the compatriots living abroad. “Moldova survives mainly due to the remittances sent by the Moldovans working abroad. I think they deserve having their television channel,” Barba said. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Teleradio-Moldova Eugen Rybka said they were informed about the possible halt in the airing of TV Moldova International on January 12. "At the January 15 extraordinary meeting, the Supervisory Board was to discuss the given issue. During the meeting, Adela Raileanu informed us that the problem was solved. I do not know how the problem was solved, but I was surprised when I read that the broadcasting of Moldova International was stopped on the website www.trm.md. I felt misinformed. I will raise this issue at the next meeting of the Board.” TV Moldova International was launched three years ago to inform the Moldovan citizens living abroad and promote Moldova's image. It has the status of department of the public TV channel Moldova-1.
