Two twin girls aged 15 drowned in the Nistru River in the afternoon of June 23. They were from Talmaza village of Stefan-Voda district. Allegedly, one of the girls started to drown and the other girl tried to save her, but both of them were swallowed by water.
Diana Turcan, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told IPN that the bodies of the girls haven’t been recovered yet owing to the low visibility because of currents.
The deputy mayor of Talmaza Anton Sarghi has told IPN that the girls are from a socially deprived family. They lived together with their mother and her partner. The woman does not have other children.
Another case of drowning happened in Horesti, Ialoveni. A man aged 36 went to swim and didn’t return. His body wad found in several hours.
Also yesterday, two girls aged 15 from the municipality of Balti were close to drowning. They went to swim in a lake and went too far from the shore. The rescuers managed to save them.
Rescuers warn that swimming in forbidden places and under the influence is banned. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, 23 persons, six of whom minors, have drowned in Moldova since the start of the warm season.
