Two days of traffic restrictions due to German Chancellor’s visit
On August 22, the day of the arrival of the German Chancellor, as well as a day before that, the traffic in Chisinau will be restricted. During these two days, the citizens are advised to leave their private vehicles and use public transportation, especially in the central part of the capital, reports Info-Prim Neo.
“We understand that this is the back-to-school period and many people come to Chisinau. We would like to ask you to bear in mind that on August 21 and 22, the traffic in Chisinau, especially in the center of the city, will be restricted”, stated Minister of Interior Dorin Recean, on Friday, August 17, at a press conference.
The Minister mentioned that, according to international practices, the Ministry is currently inspecting residential funds and all objectives – enterprises, organizations, commercial units, bridges, underground passages – that are adjacent the itineraries of the official delegation. Concomitantly, all gun possessors, who live or work in the zones adjacent to the official delegation’s itineraries or visit objectives, are undergoing inspection. The Ministry asks the gun possessors to deposit them in sealed safes, or submit them to the police commissariats nearby.
“We are doing our best to organize public order and security in a manner that would bother citizens the least. Meanwhile, we appeal to everyone’s co-participation in this important event. The Ministry of Interior, along with other institutions involved in this process, apologizes for all the inconveniences caused”, the Minister noted. All technical details regarding the Chancellor’s routes and visit objectives will be made public on Tuesday, August 21.
Angela Merkel will arrive in Chisinau on August 22, at the invitation of Premier Vlad Filat. The Chancellor, along with the members of the official delegation, will meet with the Parliament’s Party leaders. The visit’s agenda also includes bilateral meetings with the Premier, the President, and the Parliament Speaker. At 6pm Angela Merkel will give a speech to the MPs and invitees, in front of the Republican Palace.
