Two in Cahul caught faking money
Two Cahul youths, one of whom is underage, are suspected of printing and putting into circulation fake money, reports Info-Prim Neo.
According to a communiqué from the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC), the youths were falsifying banknotes of 20, 50, 100 and 200 lei. During two control deliveries, the youth sold undercover officers 11,200 fake lei for 4,000 real ones, and 2,500 fake lei for 1,000 real lei.
The equipment used for faking money was found during a search of one of the suspects’ houses. Currently, one of the suspects was arrested for 30 days and remanded in custody at the Provisory Detention Isolator of the Cahul police Commissariat.
Criminal proceedings were started against the suspects on the charge of fabricating or circulating false monetary signs or false value titles. They risk between 5 and 10 years of jail if found guilty.
