Two locust outbreaks were detected near Cairaclia village of Taraclia district, on an area of about 600 hectares, and Copceac village of Ceadir-Lunga district in ATU Gagauzia, on an area of about 650 hectares. According to the National Food Safety Agency, the locusts attacked pastures, aquatic plants and forest strips, IPN reports.
The Agency noted that specialized companies that have the necessary equipment were contracted and they, under the supervision of the Agency’s inspectors, treated about 550 hectares of land.
Phytosanitary inspectors are on site and continue to monitor the application of treatments to prevent the spread of the pest to other areas.
