Two men drowned in the Prut

Teams of rescuers from Ungheni and Cantemir districts have taken measures to recover the bodies of two men aged 67 and 33, who drowned in the Prut River, IPN reports.

The 67-year-old man drowned in the afternoon of July 31, not far from Antonesti village of Cantemir district. The body was recovered by a team of frogmen after two days of searches.

The other man drowned near Ungheni town in the evening of August 1. The rescuers continue to look for the body.

Rescuers warn obeying the swimming safety rules so as to avoid tragedies and swimming only in specially designed ponds, not drinking alcoholic beverages before going to swim, not using improvised devices for swimming and not jumping from dangerous heights.

As many as 77 persons drowned in Moldova’s rivers and ponds so far this year. Of these, 14 were minors.
