Two Moldovans investigated for smuggling foreign currency

Two Moldovans who are relatives of the second degree are investigated for smuggling foreign currency in very large amounts. These tried to take over 485,000 Romanian lei, which equal over €100,000 or 2 million lei  out of the country without declaring them, IPN reports.

According to the Customs Service, the money was found by customs officers last night. This was hidden in the ceiling of the cab of the car in which the two suspects travelled and in two child seats that were in the trunk.

A criminal case was started and the suspects face up to ten years in jail.

The Customs Service reminds that the private individuals are obliged to declare in written form the cash and checks in national and foreign currencies when crossing the border if the sum exceeds €10,000 or the equivalent per person.
