The collection of the Zoological Garden in Chisinau expanded with two animals. A capuchin monkey and a llama were born at the zoo in May, Info-Prim Neo reports.
About 750 animals of 147 species from all the continents, except Antarctica, now live at the zoo.
“We are proud that the animals breed in our conditions and different species of animals live together in our zoo. We have many rare animals like tigers and Himalayan black bears,” said Eleonora Lazarenco, vice director of the zoo.
She also said that the Zoological Garden is in need of extensive repair and new houses for animals and birds. “The needs are greater than our possibilities. The zoo is financed from the municipal budget. Yearly, it is visited by about 350,000 persons,” Lazarenco said.
A ticket to the zoo costs 1 leu for children aged between 3 and 7, 5 lei for students and 10 lei for adults. For children younger than 3, the entry is free of charge.
