Two police officers convicted of use of torture

Two policemen from Falesti district were sentenced to five and, respectively, six years in prison for using torture, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Prosecutor General’s Office. In the evening of August 14, 2010, the two police officers went to the place of a man from Sarata Noua. They beat him, put him in the trunk of the car and took him to the outer edge of the neighboring village. The 50-year-old victim was again beaten and left there. According to the prosecutors, the police officers were called by the man’s daughter because he quarreled with his wife. Coming to the place for the third time, the officers decided to teach him a lesson so that they were no more disturbed that night. The man suffered multiple injuries, including a broken rib. The offenders got five and six years and were deprived of the right to hold posts in the state bodies for a period of five years.
