Two Polish men caught smuggling contraband cigarettes
A truck with a trailer that was coming from Ukraine and heading for Hungary was stopped at the Leuseni-Albita customs post for trying to smuggle abut 200,000 contraband cigarettes. Customs Service spokesman Alina Sargu has told Info-Prim Neo that these cigarettes on the EU market are valued at about €1 million.
The truck was driven by two citizens of Poland aged 44 and 39. According to the accompanying documents, they were transporting reinforced concrete slabs. The cigarettes with Ukrainian excise duties were hidden inside these slabs.
The Polish men entered Moldova from Ukraine through the Mirnoie-Tabachi customs post. A criminal case was stated against the two. They face jail terms.
