Two men aged 21 and 23 lost their lives when they fell under the ice in a lake near Caplani, Stefan Voda district on the afternoon of February 3. The young men decided to cross the frozen lake on ice, but the layer of ice was too thin and they went under the water. The rescuers were called by several persons who were nearby. Together with them, they took the two bodies out of the water. Sources in the Caplani mayor’s office have told Info-Prim Neo that the young men were warned by the lake’s guards that the ice was thin, but the two didn’t listen. According to witnesses, the tragedy happened when the two returned home. One of them fell under the ice and the second tried to save him. The witnesses attempted to rescue them, but all in vain. The rescuers warn that the ice on lakes and ponds started to melt and walking on ice is dangerous. The ice towards the middle is thinner than near the shore. Also, under snow the ice is much thinner.
