Large quantities of sludge have accumulated at the treatment plant. They were stored in five deep lakes. At the same time, liquid waste from factories and carwashes flow into the sewerage system. And the bacteria used for the fermentation of these wastes have died. Re-cultivating them takes time, said "Apa-Canal Chisinau"director Valeriu Meșca during the Government meeting.

According to Valeriu Meșca, 750 thousand tons of sludge have accumulated since 2009. Economic agents continue to discharge wastewater with pollutant concentrations 50 times higher than admitted into the sewerage system.

The director informed that almost two months have passed since the process of bacterial re-cultivation.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu expressed dissatisfaction with the created situation. She said that if measures had been taken on time, including the re-cultivation of bacteria, the situation would have been different.
