Untila and Ohotnikov questioned by commission of inquiry into casino case
The secretary of the commission of inquiry into the casino case, Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu after the July 26 hearing said he will demand that the final report of the commission be presented during the current session of Parliament or in September at the latest. On Tuesday, the commission questioned two witnesses – former MP Veaceslav Untila, who put forward the initiative in Parliament, and the head of the President’s apparatus Alexandru Ohotnikov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Valeriu Munteanu said he suggested that more witnesses be questioned the same day, but his proposal was backed neither by his colleagues from the alliance, nor by the Communists. The hearing will continue on Thursday, July 28, after the Parliament’s sitting.
The commission was set up by Parliament on April 15 to establish the circumstances in which damage of 5.6 million lei was caused to the state budget. The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu accused Liberal-Democrat lawmaker Veaceslav Ionita of illegally including an amendment allowing reducing the tax for a casino table from 360,000 to 180,000 lei in the law after the bill was passed in final reading. In February, the MPs voted in favor of restoring the old tax.
