The U.S. Embassy will provide $50,000 to purchase emergency relief supplies for Moldovan citizens who have been affected by the flooding of the Prut and Nistru rivers. In addition to this financial assistance, the U.S. will provide cots, pillows, blankets, sheets, sleeping bags, and personal hygiene supplies in the amount of over $250,000 to persons in the affected areas, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the U.S. Embassy. According to the press release, the U.S. Embassy stands ready to consider providing additional assistance in conjunction with any future assistance requests from the Government of Moldova. Approximately 3,000 people have been displaced, more than 650 homes have been destroyed, and large areas of farmland have been flooded as a result of the heavy rainfall that caused flooding along the Prut and Nistru rivers.
