UTM to build control station for Moldovan satellite

The Government transferred a radar from the Special Service for Atcive Influences on Hydrometeorology Processes' anti-hail station in Edinet under the ownership of the Moldova Technical University (UTM), Info-Prim Neo reports. The radar will be used as a basis for constructing a control station for the “Republica Moldova” satellite's flight on orbit. UTM promised to build the radio station based on the MRL-5 meteorology radar. A simulator was installed to allow experimental research regarding the control, orientation and altitude stabilization of the satellite. At the same time, works have been initiated to build the land station that will monitor the satellite’s flight on orbit and collect information from its board computer. A land station that would create the flight program for a 5-6 GHz satellite costs between 2 and 2.5 million euros. Because the State Budget doesn’t have the funds for such a station, the researchers at UTM have pledged to build the installation by their own means, based on the meteorology radar preserved since 1990. UTM promised that, following the transfer, they will build the land station in half-a-year, as well as the connection infrastructure that would convey information to the UTM's Space Technology Center.
