All reforms in the social protection system must be finished in 5 years and people must feel the effects of these radical reforms. The statement was made during a Radio Moldova show by Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga. In 5 years, Moldova must have a pensioning system based on principles and social equity, a system of social assistance based on clear criteria and situations, Info-Prim Neo reports. The minister said that reforms were started, but their effects weren’t obvious yet. “Even though we started these reforms confidently, I still see people with tears in their eyes every day, many needy families. It’s heartbreaking to acknowledge that my country is still poor and the budget resources are smaller than we need to develop this system. Of all that we achieved and scheduled for 2012 we must understand that reforms may be painful, but are necessary”, explained Valentina Buliga. She said that in most countries social systems are based on solidarity and social responsibility. “People might have questions or be critical about, but new things need time for implementation. That’s why we continue providing people with information, answering their questions. We have a list of actions for communication and information so that people would realize what we want to achieve”, said the official. Valentina Buliga called for solidarity and responsibility from all people and actors involved in social protection and assistance. “The quality of social assistance and the responsibility of local public authorities are very important. Nobody knows the social status of a family better than the mayor, the councilors, and the social assistant. The solving of any problem must begin there, near the residence”, said Valentina Buliga.
