Veaceslav Gojan and Petru Caduc remunerated for Olympic success
President Vladimir Voronin awarded the Labor Glory order to boxer Veaceslav Gojan, who medaled bronze at the Beijing Olympics, and the Order of Honor to the coach of the national team of boxers Petru Caduc.
According to the presidential press service, the honors were given for special contribution towards developing the sport and for good performance at the Olympic Games.
For her part, Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanayi said that the Government will honor its promises and will transfer the pledged money to the sportsman and to the whole team that helped the boxer win the victory. At a meeting on August 28, the Premier congratulated Veaceslav Gojan and praised coach Petru Caduc, whose pupils won two of the five Olympic medals obtained during Moldova’s 17 years of independence.
According to Zinaida Greceanyi, this victory proved that the Moldovan sportspersons can achieve good results on the international arena and this medal should be the first of the medals that could be won at the next Olympic Games, including the 2012 London Olympics.
Veaceslav Gojan said that he is ready to start training without delay. He said he is proud that due to him Moldova’s flag was hoisted on the stadium in Beijing.
The Government earlier pledged by 30,000 euros to the sportspersons and coaches that will bring bronze from the Olympic Games.
