Victoria Furtună announces intention to run for President

Victoria Furtună, formerly an anticorruption prosecutor, announced that she will compete in the presidential election of October 20. She said she will run as an independent candidate, IPN reports.

“Dear fellow citizens, I want to start this message with promises, to assure you that the life of each of you will improve, our country will become richer, stronger, freer,” said Victoria Furtună, expressing her conviction that her leadership skills and professional knowledge will enable her to bring peace, tranquility and prosperity to the Republic of Moldova.

Victoria Furtună started her career as a prosecutor in 2008 and since 2016 she had served as an anticorruption prosecutor. In March this year, she announced his departure from the system, making accusations against particular institutions of the justice system, which she said fabricate cases against judges and prosecutors. In a month of her resignation, she founded a public association, which she said will focus on the prevention and combating of corruption.

On October 20, the Republic of Moldova will hold a presidential election and a national constitutional referendum on joining the European Union. The documents for the registration of initiative groups to support candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova will be accepted during August 21-31.
